The Prairie that Nature Built

ree

The Prairie that Nature Built is a beautifully illustrated children’s picture book that communicates the interactions of the plants and animals that live in this endangered ecosystem. Children of every age will enjoy this book. While this book is not set in our Louisiana Prairie, it is an excellent celebration of prairie. When reading aloud, the cadence of the text is engaging for little ones.

The illustrations accurately depict native plants and animals above and below the surface of the soil.  At the back of the book, you will find “A Prairie Primer” that contains additional scientific information as well as suggestions for activities. I love this book because it effectively communicates the beauty and science of the prairie. There is even an illustration of a prairie chicken, which is no longer found in Louisiana.
