Danny and Jenna Gillane - Bronze Louisiana Certified Habitat

ANPP congratulates Danny and Jenna Gillane of the Elmhurst Park neighborhood in central

Lafayette for their bronze-certified habitat. Danny was keen to reduce lawn to the absolute

minimum in his backyard, while filling it with dozens of beneficial native plants and some

fast growing showy non-natives visible from the back porch. He enlisted landscaper Jackie

Carlisi to help him plan the shape of the bed, prep it for new plants, and source and site

them where they would thrive inside his small fenced backyard. Between the fun yard art

pieces, over 25 native grass, shrub and wildflower species were planted with plenty of

mulch-protected space between them for when they leap. The plants went into the ground a

few weeks before the heavy January snow, and all came through just fine. Their front yard is

a prominent corner in the neighborhood with mature native and non-native trees and raised

vegetable gardens.

Thanks for Greauxing Native, Danny and Jenna!
