Bill and Elise Jones - Gold Louisiana Certified Habitat

A beautiful refuge and an upgrade to gold in Lafayette!

Bill and Elise Jones have a small lot in a Lafayette subdivision with a mostly sunny front

yard and a large shaded courtyard. Elise is an avid birder so planting native flora to attract,

feed, and nurture native birds seemed logical. Eleven years ago, the property was badly

neglected and overgrown with many non-natives (e.g., Chinese Privet, Elephant Ears, and

Chinese Tallow trees). First, they had to remove the non-natives, allowing them to make

slow and steady progress to a healthier environment. The Joneses earned their Bronze

certification in 2022, and their gold in 2025. Congratulations!
