ANPP Awarded Grant for Teche Woods

By: Phyllis Griffard

The Atchafalaya National Heritage Area has awarded ANPP a Legacy Grant for up to $17,500 to expand our propagation area and develop the back wooded acre as a nature trail. The grant will allow us to review and improve our current space use on the entire 2-acre lot ("Teche Woods") in Arnaudville that we lease from the St. Martin Parish School Board. Improvements include adding a large covered workspace, a misting chamber, and a sunny growing area where there is currently a building that will be demolished. We will also remove invasives and diversify the trees and understory plants in the woodland behind our greenhouse before making a trail with interpretive signage. We thank our board member Joni Hammons and her spouse Hayden Hammons, both landscape architects, for taking the lead and helping us re-envision the space!
