ANPP congratulates Nadya of Lafayette on a Silver Certified Natural Habitat!

Nadya's site is a large urban lot facing a major boulevard, lacking residual prairie or wetland features.

Due to excessive grass turf demanding high maintenance and drainage issues, the decision was made to introduce more Louisiana trees and establish wildlife pollination beds featuring easy-to-maintain native and perennial plants. Most green refuse is collected on-site, which also creates a refuge for wildlife. Plant selections were informed by offerings from Master Gardener’s sales, flower festivals like the one in Sunset, and Urban Naturalist sales, as well as a personal affinity for certain species such as Verbena bonariensis, and Sages (Salvia).

Beginning in Spring 2019, Nadya established her first native garden bed, which is now fully mature. A notable observation is the influx of pollinators in her yard, indicating an improvement in the garden's overall ecology. Additionally, the abundance of butterflies and birds brings her great joy.

Great job Nadya! Thank you for greauxing native!
