Megan Johnson - Bronze Level Louisiana Certified Habitat - Lake Charles

ANPP congratulates Megan Johnson for her Bronze certified habitat in Lake

Charles in Calcasieu Parish! Megan and her husband moved into their home

shortly after Hurricane Laura. The property had lost a few large trees and the

fences were damaged. They decided to bring in the bulldozers and start from a

blank canvas. Megan loves color in the landscape. The garden beds are a mix of

beautiful native plants interspersed with roses and lilies. You will find salvia,

coneflowers, and guara shining in the gardens. She planted mints and lavender,

which the chickens and iguana enjoy eating. To help restore the canopy, she has

planted maples and magnolias. A large Cypress as well as a Sweet Gum,

sheltering a racoon family, offer shade in the backyard. Megan is eager to keep

learning about and adding native plants to the yard. She wants to offer a safe

habitat for wild animals by providing food and shelter they need to flourish.
