Brenae began planting natives at her previous rental house when she was in
school studying Environmental Science at UL. As a young adult who is still a
renter, Brenae says she feels very lucky to currently rent this house in the Saints
Streets from a long-time native plant enthusiast who is active with the ANPP. With
permission, she started adding natives to the existing beds in fall 2023 and has
since created many more beds in the time she has lived in the house. She brings
home lots of plants from ANPP volunteer days and swaps plants with other native
plant enthusiasts.
(Brenae's Preaux Tip: Volunteering with ANPP will get you far
when it comes to acquiring plants!)
She started with a pocket prairie from ANPP
and has since expanded into multiple beds for different needs. She reports that
the presence of moths, butterflies, crickets, frogs, and etc. has significantly
increased in the past two and a half years.
