A new silver cert for a long-time native plant activist! Congratulations to Phyllis Griffard for certifying her family's prairie!!
The Baudoin Prairie is a 31+ acre property in Vermilion Parish that Phyllis's father gave to her and her two siblings in 2018. He had just entered into a lease with a sugarcane farmer, whom they allowed to continue farming the land for five additional years until it would need to be replanted. In 2023, they ended the sugar cane lease and had the farmer plow the cane under. Phyllis obtained a small grant from C-GRIP to buy seed, and she sourced most of it from Quail Forever in addition to some from her personal collecting and from the Louisiana Native Seed Company. The family had enough to buy seed for 10 acres so they planted two 5-acre blocks in the winter of 2023-24. The following year, Phyllis got NRCS EQIP and USFWS Partners contracts to plant the rest, which was done in early 2025.
Thanks for greaxing native Phyllis!
