The Acadiana Conservation Project's workshop for landowners introduces the basics of conservation and restoration and sources of assistance suitable for their project. 
 
Many people in Acadiana own an acre or more of land that maybe is no longer in agricultural production or they don't know what they can do but mow it. If left untended, these lands can become overgrown. And with some attention and planning, they can become hotspots for biodiversity, topsoil regeneration, and flood protection.
 
The workshop will begin at 9AM at Robby and Danielle Maxwell's two-acre homestead in Iowa with seed gathering (to keep if desired) and learning about their restoration journey. Then we will caravan to a nearby remnant prairie before meeting at the LSU Ag Center in Lake Charles. During lunch, several will share "How I Did It" stories. Then there will be a chance to interact with agency professionals that offer technical assistance and cost-sharing opportunities. Then Steve Nevitt with Louisiana Native Seed will give details about habitat restoration before a final Q&A and adjourning at 4 PM.
 
$50 Registration ($40 for ANPP members) includes lunch, materials, and honoraria for experts. Only one registration needed per household. Capped at 30 registrants. Addresses and other details will be emailed the week before to the address provided.
